How to Attract Bats
Many people don't think about bats as neighbors, but they can be a wonderful addition to any home. Not only are they one of nature's best mosquito eaters, but they also eat lots of crop pests such as corn borers. Bat shelters are an easy way to get bats to roost in your area. The best bat houses are those with multiple chambers, as they are able to support a colony of bats. Houses with only a single chamber will often only attract bat bachelors. Height is a key element when hanging your house, so try to find a tall pole or the peak of a barn. This also helps keep clear the bottom of your house from any obstructions. Orientate the house to face the morning sun, as this will help keep the house nice and warm. It can take up to 6 months for bats to find and utilize your home, so don't get discouraged.
